Tile and large-format porcelain through a whole house — a scullery in green backsplash tile and wood-look plank, a wet room with twin rain showers over a marble-look floor and a linear drain, a freestanding tub in a cream tiled alcove, and a covered lanai in pale speckled porcelain.
The challenge
A whole house in tile, across rooms that have nothing in common: a scullery, a wet room, two bunk rooms, a bar, a primary bath and a covered lanai. Specified room by room they end up as a house of unrelated bathrooms.
What we did
One palette, varied by room rather than restarted in each.
Cream stacked tile carries the wet areas — vertical stacked on the shower walls, a marble niche cut into it, matte black fittings throughout so the metalwork is consistent from the tub filler to the rain heads. Floors are marble-look porcelain in the wet rooms with a linear drain in the walk-in shower, wood-look plank through the living and sleeping rooms, going darker in the bedrooms and the prep kitchen.
Colour appears twice and only in the working rooms: green backsplash tile in the scullery against light oak, dark green stacked tile in the prep kitchen against white. The bar runs quartz slab rather than tile, which is the one place the material changes on purpose.
The result
The wet room is the piece the rest is built around — twin rain heads, a glass panel instead of a door, a linear drain, and a freestanding tub in the same cream alcove. It works because the walls, the niche and the floor were specified together.
Supplied and installed in house: tile, large-format porcelain and the flooring are one trade on this job rather than three, which is why the transitions between them line up.
