Tile Installation

Ceramic, porcelain, stone and mosaic tile, supplied and installed in-house.

Tile is the one finish in a house where the material and the labour cannot be separated. The same box of porcelain can look like a magazine or like a rushed weekend depending on how flat the substrate was before anything was set. Most of what goes wrong in a tile job was decided before the first sheet came out of the box.

That is the reason this company sells tile and installs it. When the showroom and the crew are the same business, the layout is agreed with someone who has to build it, the trims are ordered with the tile rather than a week later, and there is nobody to point at if a cut lands badly.

What we install

Ceramic, porcelain, natural stone and mosaic — floors, showers, backsplashes, fireplaces and feature walls. Anything 24 inches or larger goes to the large-format crew, because panels at that size are a different trade with different tools.

We supply from our own floor, and we will install tile you have bought elsewhere.

Where tile jobs actually fail

The substrate

Flatness tolerance is the whole game with modern tile. Longer formats magnify any dip in the floor into visible lippage at the joint, and no amount of care in setting will hide it. We flatten first, and we say so at quoting rather than discovering it on day one.

The waterproofing

A shower is a waterproofing assembly with tile on it. We build pans to spec and install code-compliant waterproofing systems, following ANSI and TCNA guidelines and the manufacturer's own system for the products used. Systems are not mixed between brands, because a warranty on a mixed assembly is worth nothing.

The decisions nobody plans for

Grout colour, edge trims, where a cut lands at a doorway, how the pattern resolves in a corner. These get settled in the showroom with the tile in front of you, before the order is placed.

The credential worth asking about

Alan Lovera has installed tile since 2005 and holds Certified Tile Installer status through the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation — a hands-on assessment, not a paid membership. It is a fair thing to ask any contractor to produce.

After handover

pH-neutral cleaners, and stone and grout sealed on the schedule the material asks for. A care guide goes out with every job, matched to what was actually installed.
