Riva Engineered Wood Flooring

SRQ Modern is an authorized dealer for Riva Spain, a European maker of engineered wood flooring. Their planks are in the showroom as full-length boards rather than as sample chips, which matters more with wood than with anything else — grain, sheen and colour variation only make sense at length.

Engineered, in this climate, is not a compromise

A solid board is one piece of timber and it moves with humidity. An engineered board is real hardwood over a cross-laminated core, and the core is what holds it still. In a place where indoor humidity swings with the season and half the houses sit on slab, that stability is the difference between a floor that stays shut and one that opens gaps every summer.

The wear layer is real wood. It looks like wood because it is wood.

Over a concrete slab

Yes — with the moisture question answered first. We test the slab rather than assume it, and where the reading calls for it we recommend mitigation before anything is laid. Moisture coming up through a slab is the single most common way a wood floor fails in Florida, and it is entirely preventable at the point where it costs the least to prevent.

Three ways to fix a floor

• Glue-down — the quietest underfoot and the most stable over slab
• Floating — faster, and forgiving of minor substrate variation
• Nail-down — where there is a wood subfloor to nail into

None is universally right. The spec of the plank, the substrate, the acoustics of the room and how the space is used decide it, and we will tell you which one we would put in our own house.

Matching what is already there

Often possible. Bring a photograph, or better, an offcut. We will propose the nearest Riva option, or a deliberately complementary tone where "nearly the same" would look like a mistake.

Living with it

Dry sweep, damp mop with an approved cleaner, and keep standing water off it. Scratch resistance varies by collection and finish, so if there are dogs in the house, say so early — it narrows the choice usefully rather than restricting it.
