Duradek Legacy Driftwood vinyl decking — a silvered grey surface with a fine woodgrain print

Authorized Duradek installer

Vinyl Decking (Duradek)

Waterproof vinyl decking for balconies, terraces and flat roofs. Authorized Duradek installer.

Duradek is a reinforced vinyl membrane that does two jobs at once: it waterproofs the structure underneath and it is the finished surface you walk on. There is no separate deck board over a separate waterproofing layer, which is exactly why it is used over living space — the thing keeping water out is the thing you can see and inspect.

SRQ Modern is an authorized Duradek applicator. The membrane is warranted by the manufacturer on condition it is installed by one.

Where it belongs

Balconies, rooftop terraces, stair landings, walkways, and any deck built over a habitable room. On the coast that last case is common and unforgiving: a balcony over a bedroom has no tolerance for a slow leak, because by the time it is visible inside, the damage is structural.

Over an existing deck

Often, yes — where the structure is sound and the slope actually moves water to a drain. Slope is the part people skip. A membrane laid over a flat or back-falling deck will hold water perfectly well, and holding water is the one thing you do not want it to do. That gets checked on site before anything is quoted.

Underfoot

The surface is embossed and engineered to stay slip-resistant wet, which is the condition that matters on a coastal balcony. It comes in a range of colourways; the greys and driftwood tones are what most Gulf Coast exteriors end up specifying.

Permits

Work over habitable space, or anything touching structure, may need one. We will tell you which category your deck falls into under Bradenton and Sarasota code before you are committed to anything.

Lifespan

Duradek cite over forty years of the system in service, and a typical deck membrane is generally given ten to twenty years depending on exposure and traffic. Ours is a coastal exposure, so ours is a maintained surface — you get an inspection interval with the job rather than a number and a handshake.

FAQ

Common questions

What maintenance is required?

Minimal care is needed. We recommend sealing surfaces with SRQ Shield for maximum protection and easy upkeep.

How long does it last?

Service life varies by material, exposure, and traffic. Many outdoor applications go multiple seasons before a light refresh. We’ll provide a recommended maintenance interval.

What is Duradek?

A reinforced vinyl membrane that waterproofs outdoor surfaces while providing a finished walking surface.

Where does Duradek work best?

Balconies, rooftop patios, stair landings, walkways, and over living spaces—ideal for coastal Florida.

Can it go over my existing deck?

Often yes, if the structure is sound and properly sloped. We’ll assess during your site review.

Is it slippery when wet?

The membrane surface is embossed and engineered to stay slip-resistant when wet, which is the condition that matters on a coastal balcony. Texture varies a little by colourway, so if the deck is a pool surround or a stair landing we will tell you which of the range we would put on it.

Do I need permits?

Projects over habitable space or with structural work may require permits. We’ll advise based on Bradenton/Sarasota code.

How soon can you start?

Lead times depend on material selection and schedule. We provide dates with your quote.

Which is better, vinyl or composite decking?

Vinyl (PVC) decking is a premium, all-plastic material offering superior stain resistance, moisture protection, and a longer lifespan than composite decking, while composite decking uses wood fibers and plastic for a more natural look and lower cost but can be more prone to scratches and heat retention. Both options provide significantly less maintenance than traditional wood, requiring only occasional cleaning, but vinyl typically comes with a higher price tag.

How long will a vinyl deck last?

However, even though the vinyl decking you install can last 10 or 20 years, it’s important to consider the lifespan of the deck itself. If the deck only has 10 years left on it, then it might be a wiser, long-term solution to invest in a deck replacement
