The challenge
A balcony and a ground-floor lanai on the same house, both meant to read as one material, with a cable railing on one and sliding doors on the other.
What we did
Both floors polished and both laid flat enough to hold a reflection across their whole length, which on a balcony means getting the fall right for drainage while keeping the plane visually level — a surface that looks flat and sheds water is a harder brief than one that only has to do the second.
The low camera angles through the gallery are the point of the job: the floor is photographed along its length rather than from standing height, because that is where the finish shows.
The result
The balcony runs to a black cable railing with palms beyond it, and the pale floor carries the light coming through. Under cover at the sliders it does what polished does anywhere it stays dry — it makes the room brighter than its glazing alone would.
